For comparing rates of absorption or evolution of gases by small organisms during respiration. The apparatus comprises two stoppered glass boiling tubes connected by three way taps to either limbs of U shaped graduated manometer. One tube holds the organisms and has a syringe for altering the level of liquid in the manometer during setting up. The other tube acts as a control thermo-barometer. CO2 given off by the respiring organisms is absorbed by potassium hydroxide in the experimental chamber resulting in a change in the level of liquid in the manometer tube. Supplied complete with wire basket for supporting organisms and 1mL syringe.

A removable metallic top cover which allow to pass the stirrer and copper spiral tube with centered hole to insert the thermometer. A circular metallic disc of diameter 100mm with a boss head for mounting on a 13mm retort rod used as the floor of the combustion chamber. A pair of pillars carrying the low voltage igniter coil. A crucible that can be raised to the igniter coil with the help of the circular ring from the out side of the assembly apparatus. The whole assembly is fitted on a (200×130) mm rectangular base with a rod of 13mm diameter.
